چکیده
duced pollinosis is the most widespread allergic disease in Japan, affecting over 15% of the population. Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) is one of the most uncomfortable clinical symptoms of pollinosis. It is mediated by an interaction between mast cells and antigen (Ag)-specific IgE and is treated with eye drops containing medications that stabilize mast cells and block histamine H1 receptors. However, the effectiveness of these treatments can be unsatisfactory and clinics often administer steroids, which cause complications such as glaucoma. Animal models play an important role in our search to understand the mechanisms underlying AC and in the identification of more effective therapeutics. In animal models of AC, short ragweed pollen (RW) is most common antigen used. However, Cry j-induced AC is far more common in Japan than RW-induced AC. Since different allergens may induce different immune response characteristics, investigations using Cry j-induced conjunctivitis can provide information that is relevant to Japanese pollinosis patients. Although there have been 3 reports available with regard to Cry j-induced conjunctivitis in guinea pigs, there have been no reports with regard to Cry j-induced conjunctivitis in mice. Here, we aimed to establish Cry j-induced experimental conjunctivitis (EC) in mice and to evaluate whether or not this model is suitable for the evaluation of eye drops conatining anti-allergic agents.

In eukaryotic cells, combinatorial phosphorylation of the hydroxyl residues on the inositol ring of phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns) gives rise to seven phosphoinositides (eight if PtdIns itself is included) (Fig. 1). In the ‘canonical’ phosphoinositide (PI) cycles, phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PtdIns(4,5)P2] serves as a precursor of the intracellular second The Physiology of Phosphoinos...

major nosocomial pathogen, and biocides including antiseptics and disinfectants have been used in order to prevent its infections and spreading. Biocides have a wide variety of uses, and their concentrations and exposure times vary according to usage. Recently, MRSA isolates with decreased biocide susceptibilities have been isolated from clinical samples, and MRSA isolates carrying antiseptic-r...

of dihydropyrazines (DHPs) such as 2,3-dihydro-5,6-dimethylpyrazine (Me-DHP), which causes DNA strand breakage in the plasmid pBR322. We showed that DHPs inhibit growth and cause mutagenesis in Escherichia coli and that Me-DHP is cytotoxic and genotoxic in E. coli due to the production of radical species in the presence of Cu . Phenyl substituted dihydropyrazines (Ph-DHPs) have much higher DNA ...

hibitors used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)1. Tenofovir can be administered once-daily at a dose of 300 mg in combination with other antiretroviral drugs. The advantage of once-daily dosing is a reduction in patient drug load. Also, tenofovir appeared to be well tolerated with low rates of drug-related therapy discontinuation in several clinical trials. Thus, tenofovir use is expe...
